The new normal is requiring us to be creative at home and that includes making a movie premiere a special experience even if it is at your home. SCOOB! came out last night and it brought back so many childhood memories. My boys are at a perfect age to appreciate this classic mystery cartoon so I wanted to make it extra special by turning it into a party! This was my first time trying a movie activity packet and taking some time to make a themed snack board to pump up the kids for SCOOB! This is also an affordable option to entertain the family during this time.
First, I want to give you a summary of this fully animated and full-length adventure called SCOOB! It was funny and entertaining to watch this classic mystery about Scooby-Doo and the whole Mystery Inc. gang. Do you know how Scooby-Doo and Shaggy came to be best friends? “SCOOB!” reveals the story of Scooby’s origins and his first encounter with Shaggy, a lonely boy. The two join forces with three aspiring young detectives, Fred, Velma and Daphne. Now as adults, Scooby and the gang face the biggest challenge of their careers: a plot that will unleash the legendary ghost dog Cerberus. As they race to stop this “dogpocalypse,” they discover that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined. It was fun to hear the voices of some of my favorite actors including: Mark Wahlberg, Gina Rodriguez, Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Ken Jeong, and Tracy Morgan to name a few. Directed by Warner Bros. this movie was awesome and my kids are now Scooby-Doo fans! I loved the pop culture references and music selection that is perfect for adults to watch too!
Getting the party started – I downloaded and printed out the fun family activity pack so we can start doing it throughout the day. I found so many awesome sheets that I was able to use for our distance learning lessons and occupational therapy (OT) practice at the same time. I think I hit the jackpot by finding this on the SCOOB! website. The wide-range of activities is perfect for a family of all ages. My little one enjoyed completing the mazes while my oldest loved cutting a mask, the Mystery Machine van and connect the number dots sheet. This is perfect for his OT support and number sequencing. I loved that there are options to make themed food and you can do this together as a family. Did you know you can teach math skills by baking? The coloring sheets are even therapeutic for adults! So while my boys are having a blast with this fun family activity pack, I am having a blast knowing that is also has an educational function.
Using social media to get pumped up – We joined the Twitter pre-show premiere and I loved interacting with fans. Can you believe this was my first experience on Twitter? If you don’t have it, it is a great way to interact with movies especially during premieres. I was able to show the kids which actors voice for each character. Both boys got pumped up to watch the #scoobdance challenge Tik Tok video. My oldest asked if we can try it so we will today. This is a great way to get the kids and me up and exercising. This is definitely a plus and creative. And did you know that you can download on your Instagram and Facebook an interactive screen to take pictures inside the mystery machine or play around with Scooby-Doo selfie? My boys loved this function and wanted to keep taking pictures. You can download this on the right of the main SCOOB! website.
Scooby Snacks – I created a simple themed snack platter and the family loved it. I used Keeber’s Scooby-Doo graham cracker sticks and Betty Crocker’s Scooby-Doo fruit snacks. We can’t have a movie snack platter without popcorn, so I made Scooby bags that look just like him using paper bags. It was easy and simple to make and gave our platter a special touch. Add a couple of balloons and we had a perfect premiere party at home. This did not take long to prepare, so I definitely recommend trying this at home.
You can find “SCOOB!” on Premium Video on Demand or Premium Digital Ownership.
Starting now to rent ($19.99) or purchase ($24.99) and it is perfect for all audiences. My boys are currently watching it again and are so attentive. Usually, I have to entertain or redirect them midway of a movie, but this time they are laughing and dancing the whole way through. We love this movie and I can say our party was a success.
